This past week, the cult favorite brand Aimé Leon Dore from Queens, New York has teased fans of a summer release. However, the label took a different approach to launching their capsule, first introducing a speedboat, specifically a Technohull 38 Grand Sport Power Boat. On Instagram, the brand noted that the idea of the power boat was “born in Queens,” but evidently, the boat itself was “manufactured in Greece,” a dream summer location.
Setting the tone for the capsule, the Technohull boat is the underlying motif for Summer 2023. The ALD 38-GS Offshore Capsule takes on nautical themes throughout, paying homage to ’90s American sports aesthetics that were made popular by Nautica and Polo Sport. The nautical theme was highlighted with the creative direction, which saw diving goggles, water proof walkie talkies, buoys, fishing rope, the iconic Sony Sports Walkman, scuba gear and more. Bold and vibrant primary hues take over this capsule as it sees ALD lean into its All-American aesthetic.
The collection ranges from comfort to versatile, featuring collared sweatshirts that take on the ’90s nautical aesthetic, paired with roomy sweatpants. Arriving in typical navy and white colors, windbreakers fit for one to wear to captain their boat are a part of the offering, highlighting the ALD branding and American flag. This capsule places a contemporary spin on traditional sailing prep while also bringing striped cable knit sweaters to the forefront.
