Cambodia have been drawn against Thailand in the upcoming AFF Under 23 Championship, but will still fancy their chances of progression after being given a relatively easy draw.
Aside from Thailand, Cambodia have also been drawn against minnows Brunei, as well as Myanmar, who beat them at the recent SEA Games in their four team group.
The AFF Under 23 Championship is considered the second most prestigious tournament after the SEA Games, where Cambodia failed to qualify from their group. Cambodia also famously didn’t qualify from their group at the 2022 edition, also hosted in Cambodia after a shock loss to surprise package Timor-Leste.

When will the 2023 AFF Under Championship Start?
The tournament is set to kick-off on August 17th, with Thailand hosting the event this year. Thailand will play Myanmar in the opening match, with Cambodia taking on Brunei on the same fay.
The semifinals will be held on August 24th, with the final on the 26th.
What are Cambodia’s chances?
Can Cambodia break their duck and qualify for the hallowed semi-finals of the AFF Under 23 Championship? While technically in one of the “easier” groups Cambodia are unlikely to top the group above Thailand.
This means that even if they do manage to beat Myanmar and finish second, they will still need to be the “best placed” runners-up to qualify for the semi-finals. Therefore whilst not impossible Coach Felix will still need a fair bit of luck if Cambodia are to do anything at the tournament.
