Angkor Tiger have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fuxin Steel and Building with regards to the construction of their new stadium in Siem Reap.
The announcement further continues that building work for the new ground will commence in October and tentatively finish by April of 2024, theoretically in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.
This is likely to be welcome news to fans, with the club having started the seasons slowly and currently sitting in bottom place of the CPL.
What will the new stadium be like?

According to the release the stadium will have a 5,000 capacity initially, roughly the same as the Hanuman Stadium, but as previously reported by BPVE will also include entertainment venues, residential areas, as well as being a kind of social hub.

There are also plans to have a new Angkor Tiger themed gin joint, with the club recently teaming up with supposedly the best gin in the world.

What is the stadium situation in Siem Reap?
The main current stadiums are the Siem Reap United owned Hanuman Stadium, as well as the more run down Svay Thom.
Yet as well as these two there are another four, yes four stadiums being planned. These include Siem Reap United, who are building a 20,000 seater capacity arena, the new Eco-Stadium from Angkor City FC, a seemingly random government build one and of course the new project from Tiger. This could feasibly see the city with more stadiums than football clubs.

Still, as the CPL grows, it is great to see new stadiums being built. We can just hope that they have floodlights.
