Next Step FC coach Charlie Pomroy was asked to give BPVE his women’s team of the tournament. The only two rules were, no more than two players per country and a 3-4-3 formation. Here’s his pick of the games.
GK: In goal or can only be Chen Soveat (Cambodia) For some it might seem like a strange choice given Cambodia conceded 13 goals in 5 games but I can promise you it would’ve been worse if not for her. What impressed me most was in the two games she didn’t have much to do her levels of concentration were top level. 60 minutes in against Singapore, a sloppy pass could’ve been punished had it not been for her starting position and reaction.
CB: My back three would be Khmer captain Sreilas who was commanding throughout. Hali Long was the one bright spark on a poor Philippines turnout. Saidin for Malaysia also was decent and would fair better in a better side.l
CM: In midfield I’ve gone for Myanmar Win Tun who is a little dynamo and very quick. Always finding little spaces to be brilliant. Sarina Bolden was excellent against Vietnam on the lady group game.
WIDE: Jansri down the right for Thailand and Suprapron on the left. These two caused chaos for Cambodia Ave were at the heart of everything good about Thailand attacking play.
FWD: My front 3 would be Thai from Vietnam and Tun from Myanmar. Then the focal point would be my player of the tournament Nhu Huyng. The Vietnamese captain was on fire and rightly so is taking home a gold medal.
