Cambodia 2 Laos 0
Seven months in the freezing cold of China, isolated, away from family and with only one objective; A gold medal!! The women’s competition almost certainly the most unpredictable of any event although you can expect the usual suspects to be in around the podium. On The evidence of this display there is no reason Cambodia shouldn’t be there…
First Half Cambodia 1 Laos 0
The game started with Cambodia on top and creating chance after chance. Moving the ball along the backline quickly and with determination, and the front five dropping in and spinning in rotation looking for the balls in the spaces created.
Laos simply couldn’t handle the coordinated movements.
The breakthrough coming just after 10 minutes with a neat exchange down the right hand side forged the opening for Yon to become Cambodia first ever female goalscorer in the SEA Games.
It was a pattern to be repeated just before half time with You grabbing her second goal of the game and giving the fans something to scream and shout about.
Second Half Cambodia 2 Laos 0
The second half was played at a slower tempo with the Khmers dominating possession and even though Laos needed to come out at and attack, they didn’t. A brief 10 minute spell on the hour mark, after the host nation made a couple changes, was all the Laos women could put up against us but it was still the Khmers creating the better of the chances. Yon missing a golden midway through the second half to complete her hat trick but she will not be to upset about that given the outcome of the game.
What does it mean…
Cambodia will play Singapore on Saturday knowing 3 points will guarantee them a place in the semi final. A loss will mean they need to go into the last game with Thailand needing a better result than Singapore match with Laos. A draw on Saturday will have us on a tense affair on the last day needing to lose by less than 4 and hope Singapore don’t beat Laos by more than 2.
