The world cup qualifying draw took place this afternoon and Cambodia will be in a confident mood having been drawn against Pakistan.
No one can be taken lightly…
Cambodia are in no position to be taking any international team lightly of course. Only a couple of months ago we were all in a confident mood of progressing through an easy SEA Games group only to fail miserably and be left embarrassed. However this is a different scenario. It’s the world cup! We have Felix in charge and a record against Pakistan to give us every reason to be confident.
Who did we avoid?
Cambodia were one of the seeded teams which meant our opponent was, in theory, supposed to be ‘weaker’ than us. We’ve avoided potential banana skins Timor-Leste, Laos and ever improving Brunei, not to mention Bangladesh who beat us just last month in Felix’s debut as national team manager.
Whilst Bhutan, Guam or Macau would’ve been prefered, Pakistan represents as good a draw we could’ve hoped for.
USA & Mexico 2026 seems a long way away but for the smaller nations on continents with limited entries that journey begins October 17th.
