The victory, while expected was needed if Cambodia are to have any chance of qualifying from the opening round, with tough matches to follow including a must win against Myanmar, as well as one against tournament favorites Thailand.

Cambodia 5 Brunei 0

In a match Cambodia had to win, the question was not if, but how many goals they got.

The game started well for Cambodia who took an early lead in the 5th minute with a finely taken goal from Ratana, before an own goal in the 9th minute. Brunei for their credit then held of for the rest of the half.

The second half though was again to be Cambodia’s with Ratana making it 3, before further goals from Ratana (his hat trick), Chanrith, and finally Pisey to seal the rout of the tiny, but rich Sultanate.

What does it mean?

Well things look good for the new reign of Felix Dalmas, with him sealing this huge victory that the Kingdom so badly needed.

From an AFF point of view it was exactly the result needed if Cambodia are to have any chance of qualification. As things stand if Cambodia manage to beat Myanmar then they will in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds for the first time since 2019.

Speaking exclusively to BPVE Coach Dalmas stated “I’m content with what we did and how we did it today. This is just the beginning and we are trying to grow everyday in what is a new project for the Cambodian national team”.
