It’s a semi-final. It’s a trophy we can win. How many times have we heard our national team say those words? There’s excitement about football in the country right now and there is real belief we can go far in the SEA Games. The only way to increase that optimism is to win this competition.
Previous meetings not reason for concern…..
The national teams record against Malaysia isn’t one we can shouting from any rooftop with pride, played 8 with 0 wins, but at U23 level and below we have had the upper hand in recent years. Malaysia is the home of The AFC and has a rich football history. The wealth of the country has ensured money goes into the game and that has produced a very competitive structure at all levels of the game. Cambodia football structure is still taking shape but progressing fast and at youth levels we have every reason to believe we can compete.
We have 3 very string goalkeepers in Saliim, Lyheng & Dara. All playing for top clubs with experience at this level. We’re defenders heavy with 11 of the squad listed as defenders. This would suggest that we plan to adopt a 5-3-2 or 5-2-3 system with the wing backs able to venture forward when in possession. Nora from Vishaka won’t need a second invite to do so. In midfield Aarun will provide much needed steal and Ratanak from Svay Rieng is, in my opinion, an amazing talent and could/should go onto bigger things than Cambodia. Then up top in Pisoth we have the most exciting young player in the country right now capable of winning games by himself. The only two players from outside the CPL, Soknet (EDC) & Rina (Prey Veng) will both bolster the attack and not look out of place.
Cambodia 3-1 Malaysia
I’m going for the Khmer Warriors. It will be an amazing game and one I believe we will win. Momentum and spirit are high and everyone is out to impress.
