Whilst 6 foreigner are allowed to be registered, the actual rules are known as the $+1+1 rule. This means that clubs can sign 4 players from any FIFA nation, as well as one from the AFC and one from ASEAN.

This also means clubs can theoretically have up to 5 AFC players and 6 ASEAN players. The use has been Brough in officially to “improve standards”, as well as “introduce more ASEAN talent”.

In fact it brings the league in line with ASEAN policy and with most of the other leagues within the political block.

Whether players from prospective ASEAN member Timor-Leste has not been clearly stated. There has recently been a relative influx of players from East Timor, with three currently signed and more potentially joining before the end of the transfer window.
