While we are still waiting for the draw for the actual competition, which was expected on August 16th, some progress has been made with regards to the second-tier as the CPL entrants have been confirmed.
The league will as expected has eight entrants, with thankfully no surprises thrown into the mix, as of yet.
Who are the 2023-24 CPL 2 Entrants
The eight clubs are as follows’
National Police FC
Siem Reap FC
Angkor City FC
Life FC
National Academy
ISI Reserves
Visakha Reserves
Tiffy Army Reserves
CPL 2 Entrants – Format?
As expected we have 4 “real clubs”, 1 academy, as well as three reserve sides. Format wise we expect it to be tripe round-robin, with play-offs at the end.
Will there be promotion and relegation? Quite simply we do not know, but in essence only four clubs could get promoted, and of that four it is not known if any would qualify for CPL licensing, despite the fact clubs such as National Police have competed in the top-tier.
When will CPL 2 start?
Again we are still waiting for exact fixtures, but it is still hoped that the league will start on September 16th, although much like the pictures themselves it could well be delayed.
In the last 24 hours there have been numerous announcements on the CPL page, with more expected in the coming days. As always BPVE will have our fingers on the pulse on what is a developing story.
