CPL League Table Prediction – Gareth Johnson

CPL League Table Prediction

Ten teams, 3 rounds of games and then the top four go into the play offs to decide our premier league champion. Whether there will be relegation, or indeed promotion playoffs we do not know yet,

Regardless of format we can still make our predictions. Here’s the turn if BPVE’s Gareth Johnson.

10th- Angkor Tiger

One of the big guns of Cambodian football, but I worry that they have not spent the same amount of money as other clubs, particularly those who have been promoted. I hope I’m wrong on this one as they are such a nice club.

9th- Prey Veng

Have spent money and spent it well, but are my tip for 9th at very best. Keep in mind last year they finished 5th in CPL 2.

8th- Kirivong SSC

I think predicting 8th place might actually be lowballing Kirivong, but as the league has but 10 teams not everyone can succeed. They did great in the League Cup and another team I genuinely hope do well.

7th- Tiffy Army

A club that used to be great, but now aren’t. Need more investment if they are to challenge, but have enough depth to stay up.

6th- ISI

Next season will be a strong contender for top 4, but I think that is too much to ask of them this year. Expect them, like Visakha to be dining at the big boys table in a fairly short period of time.

5th- Boeung Ket

With the signing of their new Serbian striker Boeung Ket have the potential to do great things, if he is fit. Not quite a one man band, but a few injuries and they will struggle. Top 4 potential, but I feel lack depth.

4th- Svay Rieng

The team that I really want to win the league and the team with the best strike force in the division, BUT this after so long under Conor Nestor, can they adapt under new management?

3rd- Visakha

Have a great overall squad, but since 2021 have a knack of doing something dumb like sacking their coach 3 games before the end of the season. I see them going 3 for 3 and choking again.

2nd- Nagaworld

My top tip as the surprise packages of the season. They have spent well, have a great coach and have even moved to a new stadium. Even if they do not challenge for the title, they will certainly be in the reckoning.

1st- Phnom Penh Crown

Last year they started awfully, but somehow managed tomato only comeback, but amazingly pip PKR Svay Rieng to the title. This year they have already won the League Cup and Super Cup going into the season. Crown will make history this year.
