Indonesia 5-0 Myanmar 0

INDO 5-0 MYANMAR

Matchday 3 in Group A and a pinnacle game in respect of Cambodia’s ambitions in this tournament. Indonesia are expected to top the group with ease and the battle for second becomes a mathematical battle with Myanmar, Cambodia and Philippines wanting to lose by the least to Indonesia and beat Timor by the most. Games against each other being the deciders and so far only Philippines draw with Cambodia has been played.

First Half

In spite of alleged complaints about the state of changing rooms at Olympic Stadium, the Indonesians didn’t seem too fazed and opened the with at blistering pace.

Ferdinan opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a neat finish and 10 minutes later was bought down in the box to win the penalty that Santana converted down the middle. The PSM striker is fast becoming one of the continent’s biggest stars and without doubt could be converting some clubs in Europe very soon. 2-0 at half time and that little game of mathematics mentioned earlier swings in Filipino favor who were far harder to beat.

Second Half

Second half and no signs of slowing down. Santana grabbed his second on the hour mark with a ferocious strike from the edge of the area. Myanmar were unable to offer anything in reply but managed a shot on target 63 minutes into the game. On 78 minutes it was 4-0 when Firdaus bagged his first of the tournament and on 88 minutes Agung made it 5.

What Does It Mean?

Myanmar will know they need to beat both Philippines and Cambodia to qualify. That is possible but the effect of this could be too confidence damaging.

Indonesia booked their place in the semi finals and will play runners up in Group B. For them this year a message to the rest of the tournament that they’re here to win!!
