In an official Facebook live event hosted by Cambodian Premier League (CPL) CEO Satoshi, the worst kept secret in Cambodia football, namely that ISI and Prey Veng had been promoted was announced.

How did they get promotion?
ISI finished second in CPL 2 to EDC FC. The grapevine at the time was that EDC FC would not be offered promotion which duly led to them ceasing operations. ISI as the club the CPL wanted in the league were duly promoted.
You can read about EDC FC here.
And why did Prey Veng get promoted? Well this one is a bit more controversial as the club finished 5th behind National Police and Koh Kong. Yet whilst lacking in the field, off of it they have cash abd influence. . .
Aside from the clubs they leapfrogged to get into the division there are other controversies related to the club, mainly question marks over their relationship with Visakha FC. Many senior figures within the league consider them too connected, with one top tier coach telling us “How can one team have 2 sides in CPL. This is about fairness”.
It should be noted though that this is but an opinion, althing an opinion held by almost every other club, whether they say it officially or not.

Congratulation on Awarding National Club License to Prey Veng FC to Participate in the Cambodian Premier League 2023/24
On the morning of Saturday, June 17, 2023, Mr. Satoshi Saito, CEO of the Cambodian Premier League, handed over the club license to the management of Prey Veng Football Club.
Welcome to the Cambodian Premier League 2023/24
And what about CPL 2?
While many had been excited about a live press release from the CPL, that it was simply to announce something we all knew was a bit disappointing. If the Facebook comments were anything to go by though many fans were more interested in the fate of CPL 2.
Sadly it seems that not only is the CPL 2 once again an afterthought, but that important answers to important questions will not be forthcoming in the near future.
