Following its successful opening ceremony the ITF Under 14’s Championship has officially started play in Phnom Penh, with Cambodia’s two wild card entries playing their first matches.

The tournament, the first of its kind to be hosted within the Kingdom will see 48 of the continents hottest prospects play-off in mens and women’s categories for the top prize.
Cambodia as hosts were allowed two so called “wild card” entries, both of whom played on the opening day.


How did Cambodia do?
Yesterday (Monday) Cambodia’s junior players both played singles matches, with Vireak facing Indian opponent Navin Sundaram Rajasundaram and Ratanak taking on Iranian star Danial Moshtaghifard.
The Cambodian starlets did their best, but were alas unable to come out with a victory. Ratanak was beaten 2-0 by the Iranian Moshtaghifard 1-6 and 2-6, with Vireak also losing to his Indian opponent Rajasundaram.
Following this Vireak and Ratanak teamed up to play a doubles match against Hong Kong junior Andre Lam Jun Bart and Malaysian Aqil Adibi Rahiman, again putting up a spirited performance.
The competition which is being held at the Morodok Techo National Stadium will commence on September 8th with both the finals and closing ceremony.
