The official draw took place this Friday morning to determine the fixtures for CL2 2023-24 season. The draw was streamed live from CPL headquarters in Phnom Penh.
Format For The Season…
The same format will be introduced as CPL with 3 rounds of games totalling 21 for the season ending in March. Promotion and relegation still not completely clear and wasn’t mentioned. Satoshi would be hesitant to relegate any of the top teams due to fear they would dissolve so what the answer is remains to be seen.
The Teams Competing & Locations..
CPL heavyweights Vishaka, Tiffy Army & ISI register reserve teams to compete but will not be able to be promoted. All three teams are Phnom Penh based. National Academy are unable to gain promotion and are made up of u18 players from the facility in Bati.
National Police, also based in Phnom Penh, will be the early season favorites having finished second last season and with new manager Vanna at the helm anything is possible.
The two Siem Reap based clubs Angkor City & Siem Reap FC will both feel they have a chance to challenge and both will want to give good accounts of themselves.
New boys Life FC in Sihanoukville have had a eventful summer and everyone will be expecting big things from this new club.
Opening Weekend…
Of course the following is subject to change given the potential stadium clashes with CPL.
Life FC vs will begin their journey with a home tie against Angkor City. Siem Reap FC will host National Academy, Vishaka and ISI play on the Sunday leaving the final game between Tiffy Army and National Police.
