In an unexpected turn of events,, the New York Subliners (NYSL) made history this weekend by defeating the Toronto Ultra in a stunning 5-0 clean sweep at the Call of Duty League 2023 Grand Finals. This marks the biggest grand finals clean sweep ever, beating the 2014 3-0 clean seat by Complexity, and crowns NYSL as the undisputed champions of the COD Esports world.
The road to victory was not an easy one for the Subliners. Initially, they were bested by the Toronto Ultra in the winners bracket, forcing them to face Atlanta Faze in the losers bracket. Undeterred, NYSL regrouped and defeated top team Atlanta Faze in a decisive 3-1 victory, proving that they were not to be underestimated.
The stage was set for a thrilling rematch between NYSL and Toronto Ultra in the grand finals. However, the Subliners were determined to avenge their earlier loss, and they did so in spectacular fashion. With a flawless 5-0 win, they not only claimed the championship title but also walked away with a cool $1,000,000 in prize money.
For the Toronto Ultra, it was a crushing defeat. The team took home a respectable $660,000 as runners-up, but the humiliation of losing in such a one-sided final will surely leave a bitter taste. This disappointment will sting even more considering their star player and rookie of the year, Scrappy, had been talking trash about NYSL prior to the final showdown.

The weekend-long finals were filled with surprises and unexpected outcomes. Last year’s winners, LA Thieves (LAT), finished in a disappointing joint last place in the top 8, while fan favorites Optic Gaming also failed to make a strong impression, coming in at only the top 6.
These shocking results are sure to lead to significant changes in starting rosters before the next season. Teams will be reevaluating their strategies and player lineups in the wake of these upsets, and fans can expect a fierce competition as everyone vies for the top spot in the Call of Duty League 2024.
For now, though, the spotlight is on the New York Subliners. Their incredible journey from the losers bracket to the grand finals clean sweep has made them the undisputed champions of the Call of Duty League 2023. With such a powerful performance behind them, they are undoubtedly the team to watch as the gaming world looks ahead to next season.
No one could have predicated the absolute collapse of an Optic team which has been known as one of the strongest teams in the tournament. LAT are no different, losing in a surprise shock to Seattle Search, who went on to beat Optic Gaming in their losers run before facing Atlanta Faze.
Following the underperformance of Optic, namely sub machine gun player Huke, rumours are now rife that the team will be looking to pick up Seattle Surge star Pred, who is now a free agent at the end of the season.
Atlanta Faze are also tipped to drop new pick up Slasher, as they failed to win a single major and finished 3rd at the championship..
Many are also expecting Toronto & LAT to also make changes, with the latter having a squad which has lasted the longest together finally in doubts after a shocking first round exit at champs.
