Next Step were crowned Desportol Pre Season Champions with a convincing 7-1 victory over KOF International Showcase at AUPP Stadium in Phnom Penh.
First Half: Next Step 5-1 KOF
The game opened at a steady pace with next step dominating the ball. On three minutes the first chance of the day was converted from Nang who is back at the club after Soltilo dissolvement earlier this summer. Five minutes later it was 2-0 with Brazilian striker Bruno scoring from the spot.
KOF replied instantly and had a good fifteen minute spell where they could’ve equalized. However it would be Next Step who would have blistering fifteen minutes before half time with Yat scoring from a corner, Bruno grabbing his second of the game before Yat again scoring from close range.
Second Half: Next Step 7-1 KOF
The second half both teams made a host of changes and there were some cameo roles for Next Step old boys.
Bruno completed his hat trick just after the hour mark and Goalkeeper Rith, playing up front instead of between the sticks, scored the 7th to round off a beautiful afternoon.
Post game awards were presented by the Desportol founders over from Hong Kong. Bruno was awarded MVP to kickstart his 2023.
What Did We Learn?
Next Step are going to be a different entity all together this season. Rumors are floating around that the club will rebrand with possible name change coming into effect. The squad they’re building looks a far more efficient side than it was last season.
As for KOF it’s been a great 10 days of being able to showcase Cambodian football to an international audience and giving local clubs another avenue to recruit players from overseas.
