New national team head coach Felix will be bemoaning his own luck as the draw was made for the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. The new national team head coach is tasked with picking up the the rebuilding of the national team after the SEA Games. However he couldn’t have asked for a more difficult drawOf course for a nation like Cambodia, still early in it’s footballing life, there simply are no easy draws when it comes to this level. The unique format of this competition means all group games are played in one country over the course of 12 days. Group J hosts, and defending champions, will be Saudi Arabia, meaning a trip to the middle east in which we have never faired well.
The Draw… .
Saudi Arabia is as difficult as it comes. In home turf we will do well to stay in the game and put in a good account of ourselves.
Mongolia the lowest ranked team in our group and not by much. They will represent our best chance of getting anything in this group.
Lebanon are one of the fastest growing footballing nations and are moving up the rankings really quickly. Most will see this as the battle for second place but the reality is they’re much stronger than us at this moment in time.
Targets…
Stay in the game, give a good account of ourselves, be hard to beat, play football when we can and give some untested players a chance.
