SEA Games Women’s Football Preview

SEA Games Women's

In anticipation of the SEA Games opening matches this Wednesday, our football experts here at BPVE will be giving fans an in-depth preview of each nation and what they can expect to see from them this coming fortnight.

Group A is the group of death……

Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar

The big news was Indonesia pulling out after the draw was made and still no one knows for sure the reason why. However the big hitters in this group are still going to make it very interesting and difficult to predict. Vietnam are defending their gold medals and ASEAN champions Philippines will want to cement their place as a continent powerhouse. Myanmar are no pushovers and Malaysia are becoming a big force.

Qualifying: Vietnam and Philippines to finish 1 & 2 but in which order is a guess. We will go with Vietnam. Malaysia in 3rd place and Maynmar to finish bottom of this group.

1st – Vietnam

2nd – Philippines

3rd  – Malaysia

4th  – Myanmar

Group B draw opens the door for the hosts….

Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Laos

The draw was very kind to the hosts and 5 time champions Thailand can and should feel very confident. It really is the battle for second place as the Thai’s should be strong enough to take 1st place and it’s a case of the rest battling out for second.

Cambodia has been in training camp for 7 months in preparation and a real sense of destiny has emerged. This is their time!! Singapore is growing very fast as a nation of football and Laos women are more than capable of springing the odd surprise.

Qualifying: Everything for the hosts will rest on the game vs Singapore and Thailand should have too much for anyone to catch them.

1st – Thailand

2nd – Cambodia

3rd – Laos

4th – Singapore

Into the knockout stages and if all goes as predicted we will have Vietnam vs Cambodia and Thailand vs Philippines.

Medal Table

Gold:    Vietnam

Silver:   Thailand

Bronze: Philippines

4th:       Cambodia
