Next Step head coach Charlie Pomroy was asked to pick his team of the tournament for the men’s competition. The only two rules being no more than two players from each nation and that a 3-43 formation was used. Here is the BPVE men’s football team of the 2023 SEA Games.
GK: In goal I’ve gone for LYHENG from Cambodia. He was unlucky and beaten a few times by defensive errors in front of him. He wasn’t flawless and was at fault for the goal against the Philippines but he did enough for me to warrant a place in this team.
CB: The back 3 was a tough call, Paing of Myanmar was solid throughout the tournament and gave them the platform to build around. Vu at Vietnam wasn’t at his best but still done enough. Komang for me was one of the players of the tournament despite his involvement in the brawl.
CM: Poeiphimai of Thailand & Mahadi of Malaysia for me would be an indestructible midfield pairing. Both capable of scoring, creating, going box to box and love a tackle. Both had good tournaments.
WIDE: Fazili if Malaysia down the left and My as nmar winger Mo MA MA Sa on the right. Scored goal of the tournament adjust the host nation. Fazili is a constant menace and reminds me of TAA where is so good going forward it leaves him exposed defensively.
FWD: Elias won’t be known by too many but his talent and ability are something else, Timor are a better team with him. Santana is my player of the tournament and spearheading the attack of the champions. Keereerom was unlucky to end on the losing side but was incredible. I’d have him at Next Step any day of the week.
