Tiger Part Ways With Alistair Heath

Tiger Part Ways With Alistair Heath

Four games into the new season and Tiger have pulled the trigger and said goodbye to Alistair Heath. Tiger have won one game and lost three so far this season and that was enough for both parties to agree a mutual termination.

Uphill Task From The Start…

Walking into the club in November 2021 there were some big shoes to fill after the departure of fan favorite Oriol. When you couple that with the unrealistic expectations of a chairman who doesn’t want to invest in the squad, then it was always going to be a massive challenge. Alistair jumped head first but coming from Thailand he was on for a culture shock both on and off the pitch. The level wasn’t what he was expecting and his coaching style looked, early on, like it might clash with that sensitive khmer culture.

A Fantastic Coach… .

What became very apparent early on was that Heath was a great coach that played a style of football that was easy on the eye. Tiger started last season banging in goals for fun. Their highlight was an incredible win against champions elect Phnom Penh Crown.

Where Did It Go Wrong?

The beginning of the end was The League Cup. Tiger decided to play with youth players even though it was widely known that Heath wasn’t impressed with the youth set up. Some shocking performances were all forgotten come pre season and Tiger had actually been impressive throughout pre season but alas the usual service resumed pretty quickly. Decent against ISI, woeful against Boeung Ket, a win over Kirivong but then the lackluster defeat to Tiffy Army was unacceptable.

Who Is Going To Be The Next Coach?

Conveniently Oriol is back in on town which seems convenient. Oriol had told the chairman he thought Pomroy should take over from him back in 2021, a suggestion ignored, however there aren’t many who knows Cambodian football, especially Siem Reap more than him. An unknown? Whoever it is, has one hell of a challenge ahead of them.
