Vietnam is the first country to win a gold medal at the SEA Games in Cambodia after winning the chess tournament early this morning.
The Vietnamese chess team, Ton Nu Hong An and Pham Thanh Phuong Thao, took complete control of the women’s chess tournament, destroying all before them to give Vietnam the honor of taking home the first gold medal of the SEA Games 2023.
The young ladies made light work is their opponents producing seasoned professional tactical moves and gameplay the envy of any chess pro. This is a fascinating thing given that most Vietnamese athletes in this sport had never played this sport before 2020, and they only started training during the global pandemic and the national team was formed just over a year before the SEA Games 2023.
