It’s the knockout rounds and as the saying goes; it’s now down to business.

Here’s a preview of the the last 16 and our football expert Charlie Pomroy predictions.

Switzerland 1 – 5 Spain

As the scoreline suggests this was a one sided affair with the Spanish cruising into the Quarter Finals. It took just 3 minutes to open the scoring and 0-3 at half time. The Spanish will still need to be even better than this in the next round.

Japan 3-1 Norway

This was a much tighter affair than the first round of 16 game with Norway giving a good account of themselves but Japan having too much for the scandinavians. Japan went into an early lead only to be pegged back quickly. Into the second half Japan missed chance after chance until Shimizu make it 2-1 and as the game opened up a cracking goal on the break sealed the game with 10 minutes to go

Can Japan go all the way?

Netherlands 2-0 South Africa

If ever you want to show a football team how to be efficient and won a football match by doing the basics right and not making mistakes, show them this Dutch performance. One goal up early on, defending superbly and gave South Africa nothing.

They take on the Spanish next.

Sweden 0-0 USA (5-4 PENS)

On paper this could have been the final but on recent form there was only going to be one winner. In a tournament that has seen Brazil and Germany take early exits and now the USA, Sweden will be looking at the English as their biggest threat to winning this competition.

For the USA it’s back to the drawing board and they may come to realize they’re a lot further away from getting back to the top of the world than they think.

The Swedish have knocked out the favorites.

Killing It or Having A Shocker?

Sweden are killing it.
