The Spanish were crowned world champions after an absolute masterclass performance to leave England shell shocked and pondering a missed opportunity.
Spain were brilliant… ..
From start to finish in this world cup final Spain were impeccable. They moved the ball quickly, didn’t let England get into any kind of stride and were winning every 50/50 battle.

Bonmati was at the center of everything as usual and caused England headaches every time she got the ball. On the half hour mark she would make her mark driving in front the left and smashing home. Apart from Hemp hitting the bar for England on the 15 minute mark there could be little complaints about Spain being in front. England simply hadn’t turned up yet. Things could’ve got worse when Spain hit the bar but England got into the break just one behind.
England Offered Very Little Fight…
This England team has been through so much prior and during this tournament that they looked like a team who had nothing left in the tank.
In terms of stats there was nothing between the two teams but watching the game and the general feeling throughout the game was that Spain was always going to be the team to win it.
On 70 minutes VAR awarded Spain the chance to seal it but Hermosa saw her penalty saved. Was that going to be the spark England needed? Unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way, the game was professionally managed by the Spanish who became the fifth team to lift the women’s world cup.
