Welcome to the WWC 2023 Update brought to you exclusively here on BPVE.
Everyday we will bring you a review of the days games, key stats and a couple of fun categories
Spain 2-1 Sweden
The Spanish will be the first team into the semi finals with a deserved win over the Swedish.
The Swedes will feel this was an opportunity missed given they’ve been the outstanding team in this competition for me.
The first 80 minutes aren’t worth mentioning. This game came to life in the 81st minute when Paralluelo put Spain ahead with a neat finish from inside the penalty area. Games like this only usually need a moment of brilliance, and given the first 80 minutes was as uneventful as it was, it was hard to imagine we still had two goals left in this game. The game was coming to close with Sweden throwing everything they had and in the 88th minute they had their reward when blomqvist equalized sending the Swedish bench into wild celebrations. They had barely taken their seats when the Spanish went straight from the restart and Carmona stunned the Swedish with the type of sucker punch that no one gets up from.
Australia 1-3 England
The English are on the brink of total dominance in the women’s game with the chance to become World and European champions. Sarina Weigman will become the most successful coach of all time with the English national team should they overcome Spain on Sunday night. The women have been playing competitively for just over 30 years and they’re about to achieve something the men’s national team have been trying to achieve for over a century.

This was England’s most professional performance of this world cup and truly showing that no matter what is thrown at them they’re capable of bouncing back or overcoming it.
They took the lead just before halftime but bSsm Kerr, her usual deadly self, struck home just after halftime. There was a 10 minute spell where the Aussies could’ve gone on but the English held on and then Millie Bright nipped past two defenders and cut back for Hemp to make it 2-1. With four minutes to go Russo sealed it.
What’s Next?
Saturday, Australia will take on Sweden in what has to be the most pointless game at any tournament. The 3rd place play off needs to be banished.
Sunday evening, 5pm local time England take on Spain in the world cup final.
