VIETNAM 3 – 0 MALAYSIA (GROUP A)
As predicted Vietnam made light work of Malaysia and the defending champions are going to take some beating. Three up at half time and putting themselves into a commanding position and it’s hard to see them being moved.
Malaysia were much better as the game wore on but the damage was already done.
THAILAND 4 – 0 SINGAPORE (GROUP B)
Five time winners Thailand opened their challenge with a convincing 4-0 win over Singapore confirming that anyone betting against Vietnam vs Thailand final is crazy.
MYANMAR 0 – 1 PHILIPPINES (GROUP A)
Late drama in what was an evenly balanced game between two teams both capable of causing an upset in the latter stages of this competition.
The first half was like a chess match with both teams carefully positioning players without giving too much away. The second was more open with the Filipinos scoring late in the game..
What Happens Next?
In Group A, Vietnam will play Myanmar knowing a win will guarantee them a place in the semi finals.
Malaysia will need to be better as they face the Philippines.
In Group B, Thailand will play Laos and will almost certainly book their place in the semi finals alongside Cambodia who play Singapore.
