A review of the days action…
The USA escaped Wellington with a draw as the Dutch, unpredictable as ever, put in the type of performance that has everyone wondering why they can’t go into win this competition. They struck early and dominated this game for large periods. The US for all the class and ability they have in abundance this was a lackluster display well below their usual standard.
The Dutch dominated the ball…
The second game of the day saw Portugal overcome a defiant Vietnam team 2-0 in New Zealand. It means Vietnam will go into the last game with the Dutch with only pride to play for whilst Portugal will go into a winner takes all battle with the US.
Into the last game of the day and it was Australia vs Nigeria. The last game of the day has somewhat underwhelmed in the last few days but this was the total opposite. The Nigerians stunned the home crowd taking home a 3-2 win and leaving Australia a mountain to climb to quality.
What did we learn?
The USA are not formidable and can be outplayed. African teams are growing into this tournament and their sheer determination is going to take them far.
What’s coming tomorrow?
Argentina take on the unpredictable South Africa, England must be better as they take on Denmark and China will play Haiti.
